The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued a final rule that expands unlicensed usage in the 6 GHz band by allowing very low power (VLP) devices in specific frequency ranges. These VLP devices will be subject to power limits and other technical requirements to ensure they operate without causing interference to existing licensed services in the 6 GHz band.
Additionally, the FCC addresses a remand from the Court of Appeals regarding interference claims by television broadcasters in the 2.4 GHz band, concluding that such claims do not necessitate changes to the 6 GHz rules. The final rule becomes effective on March 8, 2024, while the Memorandum Opinion and Order on Remand takes effect on February 7, 2024.
