On December 20, 2022, the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada has released the Radio Standards Specification RSS-248, issue 2, Radio Local Area Network (RLAN) Devices Operating in the 5925-7125 MHz Band. This establishes the certification requirements for license-exempt RLAN devices operating in the 5925-7125 MHz frequency band and replaces RSS-248, issue 1, dated November 19, 2021.
Ten major changes have been made in this new issue. First is the new equipment classes: standard-power access points, fixed client devices, and standard client devices operating in the 5925-6875 MHz frequency band and dual client devices. Definitions for those new equipment classes have been added to help elaborate what qualifies under those new equipment classes. In response to the new definitions, the original RLAN devices’ definitions from issue 1 have also been updated for clarity and to minimize overlap. The section discussing frequency stability has been removed since it is covered already in RSS-Gen. Power limits have been established for the new equipment classes. Operational requirements for new equipment classes, modular products, and device combining equipment classes. Geolocation requirements for standard-power access points and fixed client devices. Standard-power access points and fixed client devices to an automated frequency coordination system has been added. There is a software security requirement that has beed given its own section. Editorial changes and clarifications have been made to reflect the modern technology and make foundation for the new technology to be embraced by the public.
