The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the USA issued Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking FCC 23-36 on May 19, 2023, to expand the use of 1050 MHz of spectrum in the 12 GHz band for terrestrial and satellite communications systems. The rules reserve spectrum in the 12.2-12.7 GHz band for current and future satellite services, and propose policies allowing the 12.7-13.25 GHz band to support terrestrial wireless use, such as for 6G wireless services.
