ACMA Proposal to open the 5.6 GHz band for general access
As part of the outcomes of the Future approach to the 3.6 GHz band consultation process, ACMA identified several mitigation strategies for affected incumbent point-to-multipoint (PMP) licensees, including Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs).
Reflecting the demand expressed for access to the 5.6 GHz band, ACMA is proposing a change to the current policy of preserving spectrum in the 5.6 GHz band for the migration of 3.6 GHz PMP licences. Instead, they will make the band available on a first-in-time basis to meet demand for deployment of new services (this is referred to as general access).
If feedback to this consultation indicates support for the general access proposal, ACMA will: update RALI FX23 to remove section 3.2 bis determine an appropriate allocation process
The authority is seeking feedback from interested stakeholders by 31 July 2020 on the proposed changes.
